Timing chain tensioners (TCT) will wear out over time. Symptoms of a bad TCT can be a metallic rattle or raspy noise when starting a warm or hot engine. Some people have referred to this sound as the old fashioned baseball card in the spokes sound. When you hear that sound, it might be time to replace your TCT.
